Google AdWords To “Strictly EnforceR...

PPC Hero wrote that Google would be making changes to the AdWords display URL policy on August 1st. I asked Google for more details on this policy change and they informed me that the policy is remaining the same but starting August 1st, Google will begin “strictly enforcing” the policy.

Last Saturday, account managers began notifying advertisers that the display URL policy will be enforced, as a ‘heads-up’ to those advertisers. Why is Google now going to enforce this policy? It seems like more and more advertisers are complaining that competitors are not playing fair, but there can be other reasons. Google told me it is their “goal is to have policies that are fair, consistent, and adaptable.”

News Corporation A Potential Partner For Yaho...

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which had previously said it won’t be competing for Yahoo with Microsoft (largely because it doesn’t have that kind of cash) now emerges as a potential “white knight” in Yahoo’s struggle to a) avoid the Microsoft deal entirely or b) have a credible bargaining chip to raise the bid. Silicon Alley Insider and TechCruch have raised the possibility of such a deal and speculate on what its terms might look like.

mass redirects advice!?

Orite guys. We have been approached by a sound archive site with 32,000 pages listed in Google’s index, mostly on one URL but with several smaller URLs as well. These pages do really well and rank highly for plenty of terms - getting them 30,000 hits a month.

The company would now like to move their full catalogue and site(s) from their current, archaic database system on to a new CMS system, provided by another company. The other company approached us for advice on how to set this up without damaging positions, traffic etc. Originally they were going to 301 ALL the existing pages on ALL the URLs to a brand new CMS domain where all their business and time would then be concentrated.

Having looked through each site i recommended that they keep the primary domain and transfer that into a CMS system trying their hardest to preserve URLs thus keeping the high PR and trust which they have already established. I then recommended they redirect all the smaller URLs to this main domain.

Firstly, is this the best advice?

Secondly i have a technical question about re-directs. What is the best way to redirect a large amount of pages? I have worked with htacess but i am still in my infancy of using mod rewrite. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to re-direct a whole directory / sub-directory or does each individual URL need its own redirect?

If i haven’t explained myself correctly then please ask me for further info.

Peace out!

Correct W3C heading HTML with Javascript, ple...

Hi.
I’m an inexperienced self-taught website developer, who usually needs things spelt out in the plainest way possible.
I have most of my pages in simple HTML.
I know that the proper code is for an HTML page that occasionally changes.
What is the correct DOCTYPE page code for the same HTML pages if I add bits of Javascript ?
( eg Affiliate Javascript banners/links )
Thanks.
